A little reward

During the harshest days of this past winter, walking outside really just wasn’t an option. If the zero degree windchill wasn’t enough, the snow and ice packed on top of the sidewalks was hazardous enough that I took my exercising to the mall. I find it’s a lot harder to get yourself motivated to go somewhere to work out rather than to just step out the door and go for a walk, but every other day I would venture out to the mall to walk two complete laps around the walls and through the department stores– a little over 3 miles.

This little route took me through Dick’s Sporting Goods, where the cutest pair of neon blue shorts where hanging so tantalizingly on the hanger. I thought to myself, man, I would love to have those. And for weeks I walked past them, thinking to myself that I would one day buy them.

Well, when I hit -35 this week, I decided they would be my gift to myself. I purchased the size “L” adidas shorts, figuring that I would hopefully lose enough weight to fit into them by the time warmer weather comes my way. When I got home, however, I tried them on out of curiousity… and they fit.

Ummm, excuse me? I fit into a “L” and not a “XL?” I squealed, not going to lie.

So my tip for this week? Reward yourself with something that feels applicable to your weight loss journey. I have rewarded myself with clothes and the like before, but I’ve never been as excited about a purchase as I have been these shorts. They symbolize to me that I am moving in the right direction, and that things are really going to work this time.

Hope everyone is having a good week!
